At Rose & Wolf, every piece of jewellery is thoughtfully handcrafted by skilled artisans from around the world. We take great pride in ensuring that our sterling silver and 14ct gold vermeil pieces are made using ethically sourced materials and responsibly produced gemstones.
Quality is at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with our jewellers to guarantee that each design is crafted using the finest materials and techniques. Our commitment to sustainability is ongoing — alongside our 100% recyclable packaging, we are continually working towards using only recycled sterling silver and 14ct gold vermeil across our entire collection.
This care guide is here to help you preserve your Rose & Wolf jewellery for years to come. While daily wear and environmental factors can naturally affect your jewellery over time, it’s important to remember that these pieces are delicate and deserve thoughtful care — so you can continue to treasure them every day.
14ct Gold Vermeil
Gold Vermeil (pronounced ver-mey) is made by coating sterling silver with a thick layer of 14ct gold—specifically 2.5 microns thick. This makes it significantly more durable than standard gold plating, offering a luxurious look and feel at an accessible price. It’s the perfect blend of quality and affordability, ideal for a touch of everyday elegance.
Thanks to its thicker gold layer, Gold Vermeil can last for years with proper care. However, like all plated jewellery, it will naturally wear over time—especially with rings or pieces worn daily. In particular, you may notice some fading after around six months of continuous wear. Please note that this gradual wear is not considered a fault, but a normal characteristic of the material and usage, and as such, it’s not eligible for a refund.
Caring for Your Gold Vermeil Jewellery
To keep your Gold Vermeil pieces looking beautiful for as long as possible, we recommend following these simple care tips:
1. Avoid contact with water and chemicals
Remove your jewellery before washing your hands, showering, swimming, or using cleaning products. Exposure to water, chlorine, and harsh chemicals can cause the gold layer to wear more quickly—especially on rings, which tend to experience more frequent contact and friction throughout the day.
2. Jewellery should be the last thing you put on
When getting ready, apply your perfume, makeup, hairspray, and lotions before putting on your jewellery. Products like self-tanners and moisturisers can dull the shine and affect the finish of your Gold Vermeil.
3. Clean gently to maintain the shine
To restore sparkle and remove surface residue, gently wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry jewellery cleaning cloth.
Avoid using silver polishing cloths, abrasive cleaners, or chemical polishing agents, as these can strip away the delicate gold layer.
Sterling Silver
Sterling Silver is a precious metal alloy composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper—crafted this way to enhance strength and durability, making it ideal for everyday jewellery.
Like all silver, Sterling Silver naturally oxidises when exposed to air, which may cause tarnishing over time. This is a normal and reversible process—not a defect. To maintain its brilliance, simply polish your jewellery gently with a soft jewellery cleaning cloth.
Caring for Your Sterling Silver Jewellery
1. Wear with care
Sterling Silver is a relatively soft metal and can be prone to scratches, dents, and knocks. Try to avoid wearing your jewellery during sports or high-impact activities.
2. Keep away from pools and spas
Chlorine, especially in heated water, can cause silver to tarnish quickly. Always remove your jewellery before swimming, bathing, or entering a spa.
3. Avoid harsh chemicals
Household cleaning products, particularly those containing acids or abrasives, can damage the finish of your silver jewellery. If cleaning, wear gloves or remove your jewellery to protect it.
4. Get ready first, then accessorise
Apply makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions before putting on your jewellery. These products can dull the surface and affect the shine of your silver.
5. Protect from product build-up
Take off rings before washing or sanitising your hands, and avoid wearing jewellery in the bath or shower. Soapy residue and personal care products can create a film over the silver, reducing its natural lustre.
